Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Digital media plays an influential role in shaping public opinion, particularly in the context of governance. In Bauchi State, the increasing use of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp provides citizens with a platform to voice their opinions, critique government policies, and engage in discussions about governance. Digital media has become a central space for political discourse, where issues related to governance, public services, and political accountability are debated. According to Bello & Idris (2023), social media is particularly effective in shaping public opinion, especially among young voters who are more active online. This study explores how digital media has influenced public opinion on governance in Bauchi State, focusing on the ways in which it affects citizen engagement, political participation, and government accountability.
